Services for Carl Alden Torneden, 68, Overbrook, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Torneden died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at his home.
He was born March 12, 1939, in Linwood, the son of Carl A. and Mable M. Beaman Torneden. He lived in Lawrence and Baldwin City before moving to Overbrook.
Mr. Torneden served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 10 years. He worked as a scheduler dispatcher for Dunbar Excavating and retired in 2003. He later worked for Midwest Cabinets in Ottawa.
He married Stanett L. Hipsher on Dec. 28, 1957, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include five sons, Rodney, Wellington, Gregory, Overbrook, Troy and Darren, both of Lawrence, and Jerry, Wellsville; three daughters, Leticia Torneden, Madill, Okla., Sherry Sajkowski, Shelby Township, Mich., and Rebecca Johnson, Lewisville, Texas; two sisters, Myrtle Jones, Tonganoxie, and Nadine Garrison, McLouth; 27 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Torneden was preceded in death by three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Make-A-Wish Foundation, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence 66044.
