Aunt Norie’s sewing room
February 20, 2008
Several of us were standing in line — where else but in a fabric center — when someone made this comment:
“Aren’t we all thankful to live in a land such as ours? We have so very much to be thankful for.”
This young mother spoke up, “Oh yes, to have all of this fabric available, it’s not like this in very many places around the world. Even in Germany you don’t find this. My family here in the States used to ship it to me. There is some, but when you do find it, it is so expensive you can’t afford to buy it.”
Then after her young teenage daughter came up to mom asking for something (I guess), there was a room full of smiles as mom quipped back, “Want, want, don’t need, already got.”
I thought to myself: What a happy family that has to be, with a mom with that great sense of humor.
I later asked if I could quote her. I learned her name is Trisha and that they have seven children. They have lived in several lands. My neighbor Ailene Brunner, a former military wife, says it was the same back in the ’50s and ’60s. They also lived in several lands.
So many times we forget to count our blessings. I guess we get so caught up in griping and complaining. Even that is something to be thankful for: We can gripe and complain; we can sound off.
So sound off, let yourself be heard, “get it off your chest,” so to speak. Most of all count your blessings.
Bye and God bless you all .
Thanks Trisha, God bless your happy crew.
