Helpless to stop the rising floodwaters, Samantha Hendrix, who lives on Leavenworth County Road 5 northeast of Tonganoxie, said she had two hours to pull belongings from her home last Wednesday afternoon.
Water from swollen Stranger Creek broke out of its banks and threatened to sweep over U.S. Highway 24-40. This aerial, photographed Wednesday evening, looks to the south toward 24-40. Evans Road is near the top of the photograph.
