Members of the Leavenworth County Water Rescue and Technical Services Team wade through water as help Kathy Duarte, who was stranded in her home Thursday when Stranger Creek spilled out of its banks. Duarte and her husband, and their dog, Willow, were removed from their home, just south of McIntyre Road, by the newly formed rescue squad.

Members of the Knights of Columbus ushered in this year's St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday by carrying flags as their flag-bearing truck followed. The high school and junior high bands followed, adding lively music for the parade.
Jason McBroom, THS boys basketball manager, receives a participation certificate from Coach Mike Webb at the team's March 13 banquet. McBroom also made the team's all-academic list.
Residential housing is taking off in Tonganoxie, and developers and Realtors are hopeful that prices, as well as the city's small-town appeal, will draw even more residents. In 2000, the city wrote 99 building permits for residential development, a record. In addition, construction is under way on upscale apartments and a manufactured housing park in Tonganoxie.
