Mike Oelschlaeger holds two young northern bobwhite quail in his right hand and two quail eggs in his left hand. Oelschlaeger, a farmer in southern Leavenworth County who also has a job in the city, raises quail to supplement his family's income.
The Oelschlaeger family lives in this 117-year-old farmhouse southeast of Tonganoxie. They plan in a few years to build a new house. From left, are Tia, McKinna, Mike, Angela and Sydnee.
