The Tonganoxie High baseball team had only a few hours to shrug off its first-round loss at the Butch Foster Memorial Baseball Classic, but the Chieftains showed no signs of sluggishness after the loss.

The Butch Foster Memorial Baseball Classic is under way at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, and St. James Academy, Bonner Springs, Spring Hill and Basehor-Linwood all advanced to the winner's bracket on Thursday.

Lawrence police officer James Welsh is pictured Wednesday, May 28, 2008 outside the Law Enforcement Center. Welsh was recently presented with a Silver Award for lifesaving actions from the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police for his effort in saving the life of a man who had crashed his motorcycle in Leavenworth County last May.
